Contouring Injections

Dermal Fillers are a very satisfying treatment; they offer a way of subtly changing the contours of the face to balance the natural effects of aging (loss of skin volume and elasticity).

What is a ‘filler’?

It is a man-made substance which is injected just under the skin to smooth and soften the outward appearances of the area being treated.
The filler is synthetic hyaluronic acid, which can also be found naturally inside most of the joints in the body. The modern fillers that we use at Sage Aesthetic are different from collagen injections, which have been know to cause an allergic reaction, and there have been several high profile cases of problems with collagen as a result of this type of reaction.

Where is it used?

Dermal fillers are used to “fill in” skin lines, large or small, anywhere on the face.  They are also used to soften the nasolabial folds (nose-to-mouth lines) and to plump the lips.

How long before I notice a difference?

The effect of contouring injections is immediate.

How long does it last?

Contouring injections will usually last for 4-6 months. Finer work done around the mouth and lips can last for slightly less time, as the fillers are themselves finer, and the area is very mobile (smiling, talking, eating etc).

Does it hurt?

There can be some discomfort, however we usually offer a local anaesthetic for filler work around the mouth, as this is a particularly sensitive area, and most people prefer a little anaesthetic! For most other areas however, there is no need.

Are there any side effects?

The most common unwanted effects are bruising and swelling. Ice can be applied to the treatment area immediately afterwards to minimise this.
