Facial Veins
Both men and women can suffer from unsightly small red veins which can appear over time on the face. These commonly affect the cheeks, nose and chin. Medication, injury and lifestyle can all contribute to developing these lesions, however, they can be easily and (almost!) painlessly treated.
At Sage we use short wave diathermy to treat facial veins. This can result in either the complete removal of the vein or at least a significant improvement. Normally you will see an improvement at the time of treatment as the vein will turn from red to skin colour on treatment.
Is it painless?
Most patients feel tingling or some heat but no pain. If however the treatment is on a sensitive area we provide anaesthetic cream to ensure a painless treatment.
What does the treatment involve?
Each vein is treated with a very fine needle which passes an electrical current into the vessel. This makes this vessel turn pale and blood can no longer pass through it.
What happens after the treatment?
The vein usually disappears immediately. But there can be some local irritation that can take several hours to settle. Sometimes there can be a tiny scab at the treatment site which will settle and drop off within a week. The vein can sometimes appear a little dark for the first couple of weeks but this is a normal part of the healing reaction and will fade as the body breaks down any remaining blood that was in the vein.
How Many Treatments will I need?
At the first appointment we try to treat as many vessels as possible. However further treatment(s) may be needed and usually this takes place between two and four weeks after the initial treatment (please see our price list for details).
Leg veins
Unfortunately we are not able to treat larger thread veins on the legs, or varicose veins.
