Dermal filler (contouring)

Dermal fillers: a subtle way to restore volume and soften the effects of ageing, changing the contours of the face to balance the loss of skin volume and elasticity.

What is it?

A dermal filler is a manmade substance injected under the skin to subtly restore lost volume and smooth the contours of the face.

The fillers we use at our clinic are made from a synthetic hyaluronic acid (HA), a substance similar to the HA that occurs naturally inside most of the joints in the body.

Modern HA fillers are completely different from older collagen injections and are known for their safety and effectiveness.

How it works

Dermal fillers work by physically plumping and smoothing the areas where volume has been lost due to the natural ageing process.

They can be used to soften nasolabial folds (the lines from the nose to the mouth), restore volume to the mid-face area and provide support around the eyes.

They can also be used for lip plumping and to smooth out fine lines like “smoker's lines” around the mouth.

What to expect

The consultation: The first step is a confidential, no-obligation consultation where we will listen to your concerns and discuss your goals. We will provide you with trusted advice and ensure you are fully informed about the procedure, including all potential side effects and risks, before you make a decision.

The procedure: Dermal fillers are administered through injections. The procedure can cause some discomfort, but we offer a local anaesthetic for more sensitive areas like the mouth to ensure your comfort. As much as possible we use a cannula for injecting which is more comfortable, safer for injecting filler, and minimises the risk of bruising..

Recovery:
The effects of the treatment are immediate, but the results will continue to improve over the subsequent four weeks. Bruising and swelling are the most common side effects, but these can be minimised with the application of ice immediately after the procedure.

Who is this for?

Dermal fillers are a great option for people who want to address the signs of ageing in a subtle and non-dramatic way.

They are ideal for those looking to restore facial volume, soften deep lines or enhance their lips. The natural-looking results can significantly boost confidence and self-esteem.

FAQs

How long does it take to see results?
The contouring effects of dermal fillers are immediate, with further improvement seen over the following four weeks.

How long does the treatment last?
The duration of the results varies depending on the area treated. Fillers in highly mobile areas like the lips may last for 6-9 months, while firmer fillers used in the mid-face can last around 12-14 months or longer.

Does it hurt?
There can be some discomfort. For sensitive areas like the mouth, we use a local anaesthetic to make the procedure as comfortable as possible.

What are the side effects?
The most common side effects are temporary bruising and swelling. The use of a cannula for injection helps to minimise these. We will discuss all possible side effects with you during your consultation.

Are these fillers safe?
The synthetic hyaluronic acid fillers we use are a safe and modern alternative to older collagen injections. We will fully discuss all safety aspects with you during your confidential consultation.
